Hi All,
My dad is in extreme pain with Neuralgia, he is worn down with the pain. Has anyone suffered this and could offer some advice. He is on Paracetamol, Codine, Gabapentin and when the pain comes he is in agony. I thought heat may help but would be grateful for any advice. Thank you Lorna x

HI Lorna,
Sorry to hear your Dad is in so much pain. Wheat bags that can be warmed in the microwave are very comforting for this sort of pain. I can't help much with the drugs but perhaps he should see his GP for a review of his meds? He may need an increase or change of drug and maybe stronger pain relief. Hope he can get some relief from the pain soon.
Love, Doreen xx

Hi Doreen,
Thank you for your advice, dad has been back and forth to the doctor for the last 4 weeks he has an appointment at the hospital for a scan to see why he is in so much pain. It is not for a few weeks yet, and his drugs were altered just the other day with Gabapentin. I just feel for him in the state he is in, he is so beaten up with it. He is normally such a tough guy and nothing gets him down but just now he is in such dire straights. Thanks Lorna xx

Lorna, sorry, have no answers, just sending support, and telling you we are all here for you. So awful to see your dad in such pain, especially when he has always been a strong person. Hopefully someone will have some suggestions for you x BARBARA

Not really any quick fix answers for your dad from me I'm afraid, it sounds horrible for him though. Whereabouts is the neuralgia? Could he use some pain relieving cream to rub on it? YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Julie, The neuralgia is in his top lip and roof of his mouth, around his eye, nose, and cheek. Going over to see him tonight, called him a few minutes ago he sounded a little better, the pain killers have kicked in. The pain comes in waves and floors him completely. I actually called his doctor today to ask if they can speed up the appointment for his scan, but was told they can't. It's so sad he has to suffer this for another 2 weeks until they see if they can do any more for him. Thank you everyone for your kind wishes I will pass them on when I see him this evening. Lorna x

Hi,
I am so sorry to hear of your father's terrible pain.
I cannot claim to know much about this illness but here is a site which offers natural remedies and help;
http://www.herbs2000.com/disorders/neuralgia.htm
BUT, please don't buy/give him anything you haven't checked out first! The Vit B and Magnesium should be fine though.
The balms will also be soothing.
Love,
Amanda

Hi Amanda, Thank you for your advice, I have not been on for a couple of days. I have been so busy with dad he has been really bad again and I have been busy decorating my daughters room. Then we had problems with the Internet. All is a bit better today it has settled down a bit and the pain killers must be taking affect. Dad has also been told he is now diabetic but it is to controlled by diet. Lets hope the pain will stay away now. Lorna xx

Glad things a little better today Lorna,
i think neuralgia can be very difficult to treat and simple things can trigger an attack,
like Doreen i have heard hot or cold compresses can be helpful
i think it varies individually but hope find something soothing and comforting,
and dont forget yourself too, make sure you get some rest and relaxation
With love from Liz xxXxx

Hi All , Dad is so much better now, he has had the works, cat scan, and ultrasound scan. They have said it was probably a trapped nerve, but it seems to have sorted itself out now thank goodness. He is back to his usual cheery self.
